NASCAR has easily adapted to Turn Five. Yesterday, the cars rolled through the dirt and turned the corner. This has brought dirt and debris onto the racetrack.

This was fixed overnight. A three meter wide asphalt wall was installed. That keeps cars from the dirt and the dirt from the racetrack.

The group qualifying is active for street courses. Today we see two training sessions in co-qualifying.

Round 1
report

Duration: 25 minutes (top 12 lead)

Still 15 minutes, Ryan Blaney leads so far. However, only 8 cars have set a time.

10 minutes left, Hamlin was in the green area in 10 of the 11 corners. He lost everything when the back end of Turn 11 got out and he lost a few tenths.

8 minutes remaining, Larson recovers about 4 tenths as he snakes his way through the essences.

Erik Jones has a flat left rear part. He did not make a lap before the tire was released. It also tore the left rear fender.

"I thought it was really easy," said Erik Jones. He ran a full second faster than his training times yesterday.

Sonoma Qualifying
Round 2 – Report

Duration: 10 minutes (race for the pole)

Joey Logano is the first car on the track in the last lap. He drops the right rear over the curb and throws dust behind him. Logano still had about the same lap time as in the first lap.

Still 1 minute, Kyle Larson jumps to the top of the board. He made up a tenth after corner 11's exit.

Kyle Larson takes pole position for Sunday's race at the Sonoma Raceway! This is his third pole in a row on this road course.
