WWE is hosting a special action called Smackville this Saturday night. Basically, they turn a regular Nashville House show into a WWE network special, but the real question is why they do.
Smackville will be a one-hour special featuring an IC title match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Balor followed a WWE title triple-threat match in which Kofi Kingston defended his title against Samoa Joe and Dolph Ziggler , The reason why WWE is doing this special, however, is the very interesting part.
Fightful Select reports that WWE threw that special at the last minute to make sure they could. Now there is a need to carry out special events at short notice. It looks like they have no problem with Smackville, but practice makes perfect.
I've been told that WWE does this for a number of reasons, does not seem to be a big problem for them. Another person suggested that they assess how well they could act against the program in the short term.
We can only imagine what WWE might think about when it comes to putting together last-minute special events. You also have to wonder if they would be so worried about doing last-minute events if AEW did not matter.
All of these are very interesting questions, but one thing we can be sure of: we have another special on Saturday night.
