Vandenberg Air Force Base, California (AP) – Ten more satellites for Iridium Communications have been successfully launched into space
One SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California at 4:39 am Wednesday and triggered the satellites about an hour later.
It was the seventh launch in Iridium's $ 3 billion campaign of its entire fleet of world-traveling satellites, bringing the number in orbit to 65. Another launch will increase the number to 75, including 66 operational satellites and nine spare parts.
SpaceX says that despite the difficult weather and sea conditions, the Falcons' first stage successfully returned to Earth and landed on a "drone" stationed south of Vandenberg in the Pacific Ocean.
