Special Forces Commander warns the Taliban to end the war

Lieutenant-General Mohammad Fareed Ahmadi, who took command of the Afghan Special Forces, warned the Taliban to stop fighting and to take pity on their families.

"Together we will change the trend of the war to peace in support of the Afghan people," he said. "I warn the Taliban fighters, do not kill yourself for no reason, have mercy on your families."

"Do not listen to your Taliban leaders sitting under the flags of other countries," he said. "I warn foreign terrorists. Leave Afghanistan, otherwise this is your graveyard.

Lieutenant General Bismillah Waziri, Chief of the Army Staff, said that the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have the full support of the people and are known among Afghans as heroes.

"Today is a great day, because today the ANDSF have the support of the people, of our President and of the international community because we fight for the people. When people talk about courage and bravery, they talk about commands, "he said.

Acting Defense Minister Assadullah Khalid called on the new commander to "take care of his forces" and address their problems in a timely manner.

He said the Taliban's spring offensive had failed and they had made no progress in the country.

Khalid said recent appointments to the ministry were based on merit rather than on relationships.

"This year, the Ministry of Defense supported 23,000 families of martyrs and disabled soldiers," Khalid said.
