Square Enix explains Tifa's smaller breasts in Final Fantasy 7 remake

If you're a diehard Final Fantasy fan, you may have seen a silly controversy surrounding changes to a Final Fantasy 7 remake character design. Tifa, some worried fans say, now has smaller breasts. Why is that important? Well, there is a constant talk about Japanese games, with some worried that titles will be "censored" in America, especially after a report claiming that Sony has tightened the rules on sexual content in the West.

I'm not here to tell you that worrying about Tifa's breast size is a good discussion, because they are not – if the debacle about breasts has taught us something, then it's that people are really big at it Breasts hang no matter what the context. But the Final Fantasy 7 discourse came about, which could explain why Square Enix recently recorded Tifa's changes in an interview with Famitsu. Tetsuya Nomura, director of the remake, said that "it was necessary to constrain her chest," as the developers wanted her to feel sportier. After all, she is a fighter and that probably means she has abdominal muscles and is generally very fit.

Oddly enough, the translation mentions that an ethics department found that Tifa's chest was "restricted" to make sure she did not look "unnatural" in combat sequences. Without context, this probably sounds absurd; There is a section of Square Enix that determines what breasts should look like.

A representative from Square Enix told Polygon that the department is in place to ensure that games meet certain standards.

The department is actually a group within the company that evaluates game content to ensure that they are in line with globally expected age rating standards (CERO, ESRB, PEGI, etc.).

We want a new generation of players to experience Final Fantasy VII remake (1

9459003) and work closely with the company's in-house experts to make sure all the game content is appropriate.

It is unclear whether Tifa's breasts could have really topped the scales when it comes to judging the game.

The ESRB rating for the reissue of the original Final Fantasy 7 states that thanks to the inclusion of blood, fantasy violence, language and mild suggestive themes, T is for teens. The ESRB website states, "As the game progresses, a goddess-like figure wears a low-cut top with moderate cut-outs."

Tifa is not the only one to change in the remake: All characters have a number of enhancements and additional ones flourishes.
