The partial government shutdown has made repairs to the National Christmas Tree "complicated," a spokesman said Sunday. The tree was damaged when a man tried to climb it on Friday.
The National Park Service on Sunday announced that the Christmas tree will remain dark during the shutdown, which will take a long time.
"The closure of the federal government will close the White House Visitor Center and the National Christmas Tree Site," the NPS website said.
The tree at the White House was damaged when a man attempted to scale it on Friday around 5:45 pm.
US. The park police told NBC4 Washington that they had been dealing with the man they said was emotionally desperate. The man was reportedly taken to a hospital for psychiatric examination after he left the tree.
