Statins can not lower cholesterol levels in "half" of patients

S Tatins can not lower cholesterol levels well in more than half of the patients, resulting in a comprehensive review.

Experts call for an end to the "blanket" prescription and better methods for predicting which patients will do this React to the medication after new figures show that millions are not reaching the official goal of lowering cholesterol.

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (Nice) requires that patients should at least limit the "bad" low density cholesterol by 40 percent within two years of starting the daily pills.

However, the "alarming" new study published in the BMJ publication Heart has shown that 51

percent do not normally achieve this improvement.
