Arizona's Secretary of State Diamondbacks Steven Souza Jr. suffered catastrophic tears on his left knee on Monday night in one of his team's last show games before the season opener. He has to miss the 2019 season.
The video of the unusual accident can be seen 30 seconds before the next video and 35 seconds after the next video. When he touches the plate, his left leg twists at the knee in a way that it should not twist, and Souza falls to the floor in serious agony.
Video from the field level, where Souza's pain is heard makes it visceral It's clear how bad this injury is.
Souza missed a fraction of last season due to an injury that had originally been sustained in the spring – though this was just a tense pectoral muscle. In his last full season – 2017 with the Rays – he beat 30 Homer and was expected to start in the right field for the D-Backs this season. Adam Jones or Jarrod Dyson will probably take his place.
