A reboot is in progress.
James Gunn was released by Disney after decades-old tweets reappeared where he made nasty jokes. Gunn filmed the first two Guardians Of The Galaxy films and was a huge success for Disney and Marvel. Even so, his internet quizzes were insulting enough to convince Disney CEO Bob Iger to shut down Gunn for good. Warner Bros and DC Comics, however, wanted to exploit Gunn and recovered with Marvel's rivals.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn is in talks to direct the sequel Suicide Squad . "The picture is titled The Suicide Squad and is not referred to as a direct sequel, but as a relaunch," wrote Borys Kit for THR. The sources claim that Gunn intends to take the franchise in a new direction, using mainly new characters rather than following the previous film. Suicide Squad starred with Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Jared Leto, killing them at the box office. It made $ 746 million worldwide, but fans and critics detested it. Gunn had already been hired to write the script, so Warner Bros is not surprised to imprison him as a director. The suicide squad is expected to be released in the summer of 2021
