Something was really wrong with the way in which Patriots were scarce. Rob Gronkowski played in early 2018 and just hours before his last NFL game. Finally we know what was going on.

According to Ian by NFL Network Rapoport, Gronk went through a three-week span in which he was diagnosed with Achilles tendonitis and a bulge. The injuries occurred between week 5 and week 7. It is certainly helpful to explain why the overwhelming offensive weapon was oppressive for most of the season. Rapoport said that the 6-6 265-pound bottleneck was not like him until the 15th week, but was back in the injury report a week later.
Gronkowski has repeatedly dealt with back and ankle problems during his career. It only makes the recurring injuries all the more worrying. Especially when the 29-year-old retired.

It was still extremely effective when the patriots needed it most. Gronk picked up seven receptions with 12 goals for 104 yards this off-season. Against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, he fought his way with a 25-yard catch in third and fifth with the end of time. This led to a New England touchdown near the end of the regulation.
He made a similar feat in overtime with a 15-yard catch in third place in the KC territory. Three games later, the Patriots were at the Super Bowl.
That's all, though Gronkowski finished the regular season with 682 yards and just three touchdowns in 13 games.
Having taken a two-week break before starting the Los Angeles Rams at Super Bowl LIII in New England, he can only hope he's as close to 100 percent as he can.
