The original story follows.
Nintendo has announced that The Hero from the Dragon Quest series will be available as part of the Challenger Pack 2 DLC, effective July 30, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Update 4.0.0.
For this release date, a 22-minute video featuring Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Super Leader, has been released, dipping deeply into this latest character added to the massive fighter pool.
Sakurai went on to explain how The Hero would work, as players can choose between the heroes of Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest III, Dragon Quest IV, and Dragon Quest VIII.
Hero has a unique name – Eleven (DQXI), Aursu (DQIII), Solo (IV), Eight (VIII) – a unique color variant based on characters from their respective series and another speaker.
Everyone will play similarly, and The Hero has much more energetic moves than other swordsmen to match the style of Akira Toriyama.
The hero's neutral attacks are Frizz – Frizz, Frizzle and Kafrizz – spells and can be charged and
Side Specials are Zap – Zap, Zapple and Kazap Up-specials are of the Woosh type – Woosh, Swoosh and Kaswoosh, while Down Specials are command choices.
With command selection, players can select one of four random spells from a traditional turn-based JRPG menu. If you use your shield, the command selection will be canceled and the hero may try a certain spell again. All spells, including those mentioned above, require MP, and some are more powerful, depending on how much MP is left.
The spell list below:
- Oomph: Increases attack power for a short time.
- Psyche Up: Increased power of the hero's next attack.
- Bounce: Reflects projectiles and can be thrown back by others. Bounce spells for increased damage.
- Heal: Restores health.
- Flame Chop: Broadsword Attack. Freeze enemies
- Speed Up: Become Very Fast
- Kaboom: Explosive Spell
- Numbing: Puts enemies to sleep, making a critical attack when they hit the enemy.
- Hitting: Can sometimes kill an enemy in one shot. The percentage change is based on the opponent's damage.
- Zoom: Return to the stage from anywhere.
- Kaclang: Stay in place and become invincible.
- Metal Chop: Can one hit a metal opponent or one with Kaclang. Hocus-pocus: Random effect, could be good or bad
- Kamikazee: Powerful explosion leading to self-destruction
The hero's last hit is Gigaslash, where all Past Dragon Quest heroes combine into a powerful attack that resembles Mega Man's Final Smash.
All these moves and more make The Hero a fighter with the most moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The Challenger Pack 2 also includes the Dragon Quest XI S-inspired Yggdrasil altar, where fighters fight on a platform that flies through the air, and contains many recalls and Easter Eggs for DQXI.
