Supreme Court will not enter into a dispute with Bill Cosby

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court refuses to revive a defamation lawsuit against Bill Cosby filed by a woman claiming he raped her and subsequently spread lies about her when she went to court.

Tuesday rejected the appeal of actress Kathrine McKee, who said Cosby raped her in 1974. McKee sued Cosby for damaging her reputation after a comic lawyer allegedly leaked a letter to McKee. Two lower courts ruled against her and dismissed the case.

Judge Clarence Thomas agreed to the Supreme Court's appeal, but asked the court to rethink the very high standards that a public figure must face in order to gain a defamation case. This standard was established in 1964 in the seminal New York Times case against Sullivan.
