Survey: Half of parents think flu shot causes the flu

A survey of 700 parents by Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital said that the flu shot can cause the flu. One-third said that the flu shot did not work.

The flu season officially began last week and Florida is now the first state to report the death of an unvaccinated child from the river this year. The child was otherwise healthy, according to health officials. More than two-thirds of the 183 children who died around the country were also unvaccinated.

"With any medication or vaccine, people are going to have concerns," Dr. Jean Moorjani, a board-certified pediatrician at Orlando Health's Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, in a news release.

The survey thus found:

  • "Because information can come from many places, from friends and family to the Internet, it is important to talk to a doctor." ] 30 percent of the respondents thought flu shot is a conspiracy.
  • 28 percent said flu caused autism.
