PASADENA (CBSLA) – A suspicious device in a U-Haul facility in Pasadena was considered safe Monday night.
Pasadena police responded to a call for a suspicious package at 17:45. on a U-Haul parking lot at 500 block from South Raymond Avenue. The interviewed officials found on the property a package that was attached to a rental car.
Several surrounding streets in the commercial area were shut down and companies, including KPCC Radio, evacuated within two to three blocks. Residential houses and a homeless shelter were also evacuated.
Stu Mundel of SKY9 was in the scene where a Los Angeles County sheriff's bomb squad inspected the device.
Pasadena police said the device was real but determined not to be a threat after the detonation.
"The device was about 6 to 8 inches long, it looked like a device for the bomb squad … there were a couple of cables, there were a few shots ̵
Part of the Freeways 110 has since then opened as a precaution in both directions  It is still not clear why the device was reported as suspicious.
An investigation is ongoing.
