Was the FX Deadpool animated series canceled because it was just too funny? The answer is, yes.
Donald and Stephen Glover are apparently at least a little salty that FX dropped their show. Earlier this week, Donald revealed what he claimed to be fourteen pages from the series' concluding episode. Now his brother claims that it was a Taylor Swift joke that really sealed the show's fate. Both tweets are now deleted, but we have a record of everything, thanks to a reporter with quick reflexes about The Wrap.
"There really was a Taylor Swift episode," said Stephen Glover. "It was funny and it was definitely the last straw."
Although we do not know the contents of this Taylor Swift episode, if it was as memorable and ambitious as the episode "Black Justin Bieber" Atlanta (or Any Atlanta episode for that matter), it is safe to say that it was a high quality knee beating. Swift, a Grammy winner and one of the best selling music artists of all time, has been the madness of endless jokes since the infamous Kanye incident at the 2009 MTV Awards. "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you and I'll let you finish, but …" We all know how this story ends … with many memes.
Stephen Glover continued with a second tweet, "Our show was not too black. It was not really "But we definitely wanted to give Rick and Morty a run for their money and I think we would have. Proud of the gang. "
Considering Glover & # 39; s; s script-tease, Marvel fans and the Rick and Morty types alike would be interested in the clever representation of the Glover brothers on Deadpool.
"You know, I'm not mad at this whole, canceled one "Ding," says Deadpool in one of the standout lines in the script. "I mean, is it even a good time to have a violent, trigger-happy white guy on TV? Other than the PRESIDENT
"Do you think they canceled the show … because of racism ?! Yes, but all the authors were black and the references were pretty black too …", it says Script. "Maybe we alienated our white audience, no, we did a whole goat yoga episode, damn it."
Glover and the network cited "creative differences" as the reason for the cancellation on Sunday.
"FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, and Marvel Television have agreed to separate themselves from Marvel's Deadpool ] animated series," it says in the official network statement. "FX will no longer be involved in the project FX and Marvel have a lasting relationship through our partnership with Legion which will continue."
Hype for Glovers Deadpool Series was not too high on the news until the news, mainly because it was hard to know what to expect. A clip of test animation material released by Titmouse Studios (which in the end was not discontinued) showed a bit more about the look and tone of the show. It was fast-paced, funny, clever, horrible … everything you would expect from an animated Deadpool series. Well, it just seems to be a missed opportunity for Marvel and FX.
