She was on a medical appointment in the city of Nashville and thought at first that it might have been her husband until she remembered that he was not with her. When she finally opened her eyes, she saw nightmares.
A thin green garden snake was stretched over her arm.
"I'm not a snake person," Major told CNN. "I can handle spiders and all the rotten things, but snakes are not my thing."
Major said she jumped up immediately and threw the snake off her arm. It hit the headboard and hit the bed, she said. Then she jumped to the other bed in the room and took a picture.
The snake then began to move under the blanket, Major said, so she jumped on the desk in the room and called the reception at the Hampton Inn Walnut Grove in East Memphis.
The hotel staff soon came to her room and escorted her, and Major said that the manager returned to the room and called the pest control shortly thereafter.
Hampton Inn Walnut Grove confirmed the incident to CNN and said that "everything has been resolved."
"It was a scary, frightening situation," said Major. She has been to the hotel many times over the years, saying that she "definitely" would return.
"They were very helpful."
