Tesla announces that there is a Model S with a "plaid powertrain" and a new "chassis prototype" with which they broke a record at the Laguna Seca racetrack.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said today They have broken the fastest lap record for four-door vehicles with a Model S on the Laguna Seca racetrack and will soon release a video about it.
The automaker has released the video now, but we learn that the vehicle has this modified.
Tesla said the Model S had a "plaid drivetrain" suggesting a new drivetrain over the "Ludicrous" drivetrain and a new "chassis prototype".
With this new version of the Model S, Tesla completed a lap time of 1

We got Laguna Seca @WeatherTechRcwy in 1 laps: 36,555 during advanced research and development testing of our Model S plaid powertrain and chassis prototype

This is a big improvement over The best time yet in a Tesla Model S P100D.
Last year, Tesla's development team finished the Laguna Seca Series Record with 1:43.
Tesla has not yet released any further details on the new powertrain or undercarriage nor a plan to make the new version of the Model S available to customers.
Update : Musk said that she & # 39; will soon be & # 39; more details about the & # 39; plaid powertrain & # 39; Publish and said he will be offered for Model S, Model X and the new Roadster:
"Yes. To be clear, the Karo drivetrain is about a year away from production and applies to S, X and Roadsters, but not to 3 or Y. Costs more than our current offer, but less than the competition. "
Previously, Musk said the Tesla reserved for the next generation roadster the" Plaid mode ", which is a reference to spaceballs, as well as for the other performance modes of Tesla.
This is an interesting way to announce a new powertrain. At least a new powertrain mode, especially after Elon announced that there would be no major upgrade for the Model S this year.
Since Elon had previously said that "Plaid" is for the Roadster, Tesla could test the new Roadster Powertrain Model S, but I find that unlikely.
Either way, that's an impressive time.
Although I think Tesla has a little bit of room to fix, because in this video it sounds very loud in the car and that's what happens when you take off the interior of a car.
Possibly this new "plaid powertrain" is only louder.
