Tesla is preparing to launch a new monthly full self-driving subscription based on an update to its mobile app and setting a deadline for the newly launched Enhanced Autopilot package.
Earlier this year, we reported evidence that Tesla was working on a pay-as-you-go subscription to its FSD (Full Self-Driving) package.
CEO Elon Musk later confirmed that Tesla plans to release such an option “towards the end of the year.”
With the price of the FSD package back in focus when Tesla reintroduced its expanded Autopilot package yesterday, we see evidence that the subscription launch is imminent.

While Tesla has had codes to prepare for a new subscription model for some time, this update towards the end of the year could indicate that Tesla is preparing to release the new way to access its full self-driving software soon.
When confirming plans to offer a monthly subscription to access the features, Musk made it clear that purchasing the FSD package remains the best option financially:
“I should say it will still make sense to buy FSD as an option, as we believe that buying FSD is an investment in the future. And we are confident that this investment will pay off for the consumer – for the benefit of the consumer. In my opinion, people will not regret buying an FSD option. “
However, a monthly subscription may make more sense for people leasing their Tesla vehicles and those who don’t want to commit to paying $ 8,000.
As we reported yesterday, Tesla has reintroduced its $ 4,000 Enhanced Autopilot package as an alternative to the Full Self-Driving Package.
We determined that this was an opportunistic move towards the end of the quarter and now Tesla has confirmed it in a new email to customers promoting the package, stating that they will be able to do so by September 30th, the end of the Quarterly, have time to order it.
I think a subscription model makes sense for some people.
For Tesla, it makes sense too, but at a pretty high price. I wouldn’t be surprised if it cost over $ 100 a month.
Though I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla ended up breaking some features so people could only subscribe to a few, similar to the Enhanced Autopilot and not just the FSD package.
But I was just thinking of something. Will the subscription only be available to Tesla vehicle owners who already have the Hardware 3.0 FSD computer?
Retrofitting isn’t cheap, but it makes sense for Tesla to do it when the FSD software package costs $ 8,000.
With a monthly subscription, Tesla has high upfront costs.
