Tesla makes a $ 1500 … surfboard? – TechCrunch

Tesla is not a trademark for Merch. It has the standard company Swag – the hats, shirts and mugs. It has stranger things, like Tesla mini for kids and USB chargers in the form of superchargers that salve their vehicles.

And now they have … surfboards?

Although it's gone for some reason, a product page went live early this morning in its shop and portrayed a $ 1,500 Tesla board (we asked Tesla for some insight, but it sounds like they were sold out.) Electrek caught the Description before the page disappeared:

Designed by Tesla Design Studio in partnership with Lost Surfboards and Matt "Mayhem" Biolos, Surfboard Shaper for World Surf League Championship athletes, the Limited Edition Tesla Surfboard offers a blend of the same high quality matte and glossy surfaces used on all our cars, the deck is reinforced with lightweight "black dart" carbon fiber, inspired by the interior of our cars, and with tonal logos in subtle contrasting sheen. "

( Update : The site is back now, and it is, in fact, sold out)

While it is unclear why the product page has disappeared, a go ogle cache of it visible here, and some people on Twitter mention that it was possible to get orders before it went down

At $ 1

500 before taxes, the board is … certainly at the top end of the surfboard price scale. A solid board from a company like JS or Ripcurl costs about $ 750. Most of Lost's boards (Tesla's cooperation here) cost about $ 700-800. But with a limited edition of 200 boards, they'll probably be sold out anyway. My gut feeling is that many of them could become wall parts or permanent roof rack accessories instead of crushing the ocean – but who knows.

And for the curious surfers out there: based on Lost's other "black dart" models, this board comes at 6 "8" long. It does not come with fins. "On the now-released product page should all 200 boards will ship within 2 to 10 weeks.

Here are all the photos that were on the product page:
