The 2020 Hope Parade creates a stir at the Iowa Pride Festival

DES MOINES, Iowa – A Democratic presidential candidate parade took place on Saturday at a LGBT Pride festival, bringing to life the spectacle of a crowded field of 24 candidates.

Several hundred attendees gathered in a courtyard near the Iowa State Capitol building to hear eight candidates express their support for LGBT rights – a stark contrast to the 2015 cycle, in which only the former Governor of Maryland, Martin O & M Malley, attended.

"I will ensure that this country not only tolerates or respects our differences, but that we fully view them as the foundation of our strength, our success, and our security," said former Texas MP Beto O & # 39; Rourke his speech: "That's the inspiration I take from you."

Media representatives and participants who hoped to take a selfie with the presidential hopefuls surrounded the candidates as they left the scene while campaign workers tried to cope with the spontaneous hordes.

The crowd shrunk significantly as a mass of people followed Vermont's senator Bernie Sanders, the third of eight contestants, out of the yard when former Maryland Representative John Delaney took the stage. By the time Washington Governor Jay Inslee spoke, only a few dozen people remained.

Travis Misurell, 33, a Sanders supporter working in operations at a small firm, is concerned that the Democratic National Committee will distort the rules against Sanders. He told the Washington Examiner that he would consider voting for South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, but "Biden, never, Beto O'Rourke, never." However, he agreed that most people in the LGBT community are excited about gay buttigieg.

As the race begins to warm up ahead of the first round of Democratic National Committee debates later this month, nearly two dozen candidates meet at cattle events such as the Pride Festival in Des Moines.

Colorado's former Governor John Hickenlooper crossed paths with author and spiritual advisor Marianne Williamson at a tailgate event at a pre-Pride festival. Former Maryland MP John Delaney spoke in the courtyard with O'Rourke.

On the way to the Pride Festival stage, Washington Governor Inslee called to Ohio Representative Tim Ryan, who spoke to reporters: "Get them, Congressman Ryan!"

"You have great work done, governor! "Ryan answered. Inslee and Ryan were roommates in Washington DC a few years back when Inslee served in the house.

At a pre-Pride festival ban, Buttigieg joked that so many candidates are starting, "we might as well form carpools."

"You would be surprised how often we talk," said the mayor. "And as these cows increase, we will get to know each other better and better."

Jonathan Buehrer, a 24-year-old student, expressed concern about the size of the democratic field.

"If the Democrats do not bring everything together, we could easily end up with another Trump, and it's scary," said Bührer, who is interested in the spiritual adviser Marianne Williamson, the Washington Examiner . "But if we do not have the diversity of our possibilities, we do not have democracy, so it's kind of a love-hate relationship."

On opposite sides of the court unofficial stalls were built against Sanders and Buttigieg. Campaigns for Sen. Kamala Harris and Williamson had adjacent stands at the street festival, about a block away from where the candidates were speaking, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren's Massachusetts campaign also had a booth. Volunteers from the campaign distributed stickers and asked the participants for support.

The sun was burning on the 85 degree day. When a young woman in the front row who was listening to the candidates fainted, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand stopped her speech with a rainbow shirt from Iowa and a floral tattoo on her arm, hurried to her aid and called paramedics to attend help.

The Des Moines Pride Festival was a warm-up for the main draw this weekend. Nineteen candidates will be scheduled for the Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame Dinner on Sunday. However, former Vice President Joe Biden will not be present as he has previously committed to taking his granddaughter's high school diploma.

Although Biden holds fewer campaign events than his main competitors, he continues to lead the polls. A CNN / Des Moines Register poll on Democratic Iowa caucuses released on Saturday revealed that Biden has 24% support, Sanders with 16%, Warren with 15%, Buttigieg with 14% and Harris with 7% (19659028)!
