There comes a new Kia soul, and even if the front end has a face with an expression that imitates the Fry-Mem, it still looks quite striking and refreshing, as it no longer runs on the street today. Even better: Kia has announced an EV version that should have an impressive range of about 240 miles! Unfortunately, Kia currently only sells its electric cars in very few countries. That's crazy. Kia could eat the Nissan Leaf lunch if they take it nationally.
The previous generation of Soul EV seemed like a typical car for California / Oregon / etc: A change of an existing platform with specifications that did not mean much meant it was taken care of. It only had a range of about 100 miles (a little less) and 107 hp. It was ok, but that's about it.
This new Soul EV has greatly increased its use and now has a range that is competitive with the best of them – Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3 – and the performance is good to skip the 147 hp: 201 electropods of the gasoline model if we can drive with what the same powertrain expresses in the Kia Niro EV.
So Kia has an EV that has a long range, a good performance and a good performance is not boring. The not boring part is in my opinion very important, especially since almost all electric vehicles drive pretty much the same.
Electric motors are not like gasoline engines, which have very different personalities and performance characteristics depending on the design and layout. Electric motors are pretty much electric motors with good initial torque and power output, and that's all it takes, whether it's raising an elevator or drilling holes or driving your car.
That means that this is not the case for mainstream cars If you do everything about the cyclist movement, most electric vehicles will have the same feeling when driving. Because of this, other factors such as design, use of space, utility, novel layouts or features, and all the other material become so much more important.

That's why I think so If Kia were to sell the Soul EV at the national level, she could completely break away from the Nissan Leaf, which has far less reach (about 150 miles) and is as thrilling as an actuarial table.
The whole reason why Tesla – albeit not monetary – conceptually became so successful is that they make electric vehicles desirable. Keep in mind that most people before Tesla have still thought of electric cars as glorified golf carts – slow, dorky and slightly embarrassing.
Tesla made fast, sleek, desirable cars and this changed the perception of electric cars dramatically. Now an EV can be cool, something that was not the case at the time of Comuta Cars.
Well, I mean, the Comuta Car is cooler, but everyone agrees that I'm an idiot. However, Nissan does not seem to have received the memo and builds cars like the Leaf with less range and all the personality and charisma of a gray three-ring folder that you forgot on the way to a pantry. It works well, but it would require very illegal drugs to actually covet .
Besides, once you've stuck to the promised long-range hand, it looks like it may last a little longer.
But the soul EV? It looks interesting and is very practical thanks to its box-shaped design. There are the numbers that it takes not only to compete, but to do a really good job without people wondering if they're coming home all the time.
At an estimated cost of around $ 33,000 (if we take the current cost, which is still about double that of the base gasoline Soul), it will be one of the most affordable electric vehicles with more than 200 kilometers of range be out there. The current Leaf with its 150-mile range and its charm with a wet sandwich amounts to about 31,000 US dollars. No big difference.
The Soul EV is a good example of how to do an EV right. We need affordable electric vehicles, and we need them to be interesting. How else can you get someone to take care of the jump?
Kia needs to take a step forward and give up pretending that the Soul EV is just a compliance car and does not have to try to sell it. If Nissan Leafs can sell all over the country, there is no reason why the soul can not do that, and most likely to do better.
