the beginning of a beautiful mutual friendship?

S He is the socialist social media superstar of the Instagram era. He is the populist child politician of the Trump era. Together, they could become the legislative power couple of the century, the two-sided double strike nobody wants, but everyone deserves.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) And MP Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) Should consider joining forces to take over the majority population, which is the biggest obstacle to progress. The 29-year-old Ocasio-Cortez and the 36-year-old Gaetz could merge in marijuana, climate change or anything that could annoy the leaders of both parties.

This would not be a combination of political convenience. Both representatives of the millennia should leave themselves at the dinner dates. But the two have something in common: the establishment hates hating both.

For a good reason. Ocasio-Cortez and Gaetz have the annoying habit of acting independently and in the interests of their constituents over their respective party organizations. Politico has recently described in detail the frustration of Democratic brass with Ocasio-Cortez. She can stay in Instagram spotlight, they seem to say, as long as she agrees with the party.

"I'm sure Mrs. Cortez is fine, but there's almost a pending rule: you can not attack your own people," said MP Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo. "We simply do not need to snap in our Democratic Caucus."

That's a good advice for a long and boring and rigorous career in Congress where plush committee positions are taken on the basis of seniority rather than skill. It's just not the best way to judge things after the last few centuries of legislative history.

Ocasio-Cortez and Gaetz know how to attract attention. This would of course disturb the powers controlling the majority house. You'll likely get a glowing magazine profile or primetime media space, as well as a private admonition from the leadership of their party. That was good for their personal brands so far. Now they should do well for their political goals.

Instead of chasing committee positions that do not matter, and instead of creating dustbin bills without a chance to pass, they should band together immediately. Despite their many ideological differences, there are enough areas that the two agree on where they can enforce laws.

They could spend a damn good time together and watch Washington for the ears. At least it's fun to think like that.
