WALTERBORO, S.C. – Authorities say 17 people were injured, two of them in serious condition when a charter bus carrying a high school chore team crashed early on Sunday morning, reports CBS connected WCSC TV. The clash occurred around 1 pm local time Sunday, Colleton Fire Rescue Chief Barry McRoy said.
The bus carried 30 students and adult chaperones from Beddingfield High School in Wilson, North Carolina, who were returning from a trip to Florida.
McRoy said the bus heading north rolled off the left side, crossed southbound lanes, and went down an embankment. He said that 1
"You were very lucky," McRoy told WCSC-TV. "There were two big trees nearby, where the bus had landed, and if they had gone only a few meters further, they would have hit these trees head-on."
The Beddingfield Chorus told Sunday a Facebook post that thanked a trucker came by and offered paper towels to stop bleeding. It says the hospital opened its cafeteria and offered to cook breakfast for them.
