The bus carrying high school choir team crashes in South Carolina and injures 17

WALTERBORO, S.C. – Authorities say 17 people were injured, two of them in serious condition when a charter bus carrying a high school chore team crashed early on Sunday morning, reports CBS connected WCSC TV. The clash occurred around 1 pm local time Sunday, Colleton Fire Rescue Chief Barry McRoy said.

The bus carried 30 students and adult chaperones from Beddingfield High School in Wilson, North Carolina, who were returning from a trip to Florida.

McRoy said the bus heading north rolled off the left side, crossed southbound lanes, and went down an embankment. He said that 1

1 people were transported to local hospitals and that the driver was one of the drivers listed in serious condition. Six other students later came to treatment for minor injuries, he said.

"You were very lucky," McRoy told WCSC-TV. "There were two big trees nearby, where the bus had landed, and if they had gone only a few meters further, they would have hit these trees head-on."

The Beddingfield Chorus told Sunday a Facebook post that thanked a trucker came by and offered paper towels to stop bleeding. It says the hospital opened its cafeteria and offered to cook breakfast for them.

There was a bus accident when the Beddingfield High School Band and the Orlando Chorus returned to I-95, but we are pleased …
