The church says that Bible teaching is probably the source of the measles outbreak

The eruption of measles is likely due to a Bible study in Gracepoint Christian Church for the Slavic Christian Academy, the church said on Monday.

A third grader who died in the The class came down with the disease over the Christmas holidays, said the headmaster, Andre Dolbinin.

Health officials in Clark County have not confirmed the connection.

Dolbinin said the student – Clark County's first mask case in December – still has not returned to class.

He said that the boy recovered at home and that his parents were asked to have the child's blood examined.

"If the disease has disappeared, he can gladly come back." Dolbinin said.

He said the Academy and the churches it is associated with encourage members to receive vaccinations for themselves and their children.

But some parents mistrust the vaccines. The mistrust may be a remnant of the time he spent in the former Soviet Union.

Dolbinin believes that a girl who came from Florida at Christmas brought the infection to Clark County. In December, Florida's health department reported four unvaccinated measles cases. Clark County's Public Health Department views Florida or another New York outbreak as potential sources of outbreak.

However, it is difficult for county health officials to establish a single source for the outbreak, as it may take weeks for the onset of an infected person to show signs of measles.

Health officials said Monday there were 35 confirmed cases of measles in the Clark County outbreak.
