The Coast Guard said on Saturday that they are exposing the search for a missing passenger on a cruise ship.
The authorities believe 26-year-old Thomas McElahny has gone overboard the cruise ship Carnival Victory. The Coast Guard will be informed about the incident on Friday at 5 o'clock in the morning.
Kimberly Wyatt, the news director of WEAR-TV, our sister station in Pensacola, shared a photo of McElhany when the cruise ship was making its first search during preparations for monitors.
The Coast Guard says they've had contact with McElhany's family.
"I have had contact with members of Mr. McElhany's family during our research and know that this is a very difficult and painful time for them," said Cmdr. David Aldous, Coordinator of Coast Guard Search and Rescue Mission, 7th Ward. "Suspending a search is one of the toughest decisions we need to make as a first responder, and it's never taken lightly."
Crews from Miami and Key West participated in the search, which covered about 2,086 miles in 32 hours.
