The cryptic tweet of Blue Origin indicates a new adventure

Jeff Bezo's rocket company has plans for next month. Blue Origin released a questioning tweet on Friday with nothing more than the date of May 9, 2019 and a picture of Ernest Shackleton's ship Endurance.

Endurance was the ship that was launched in 1914 with an epic Trans-Antarctic expedition. What it has to do with Blue Origin to compete with other commercial space companies such as by Elon Musk's SpaceX is unclear.

Blue Origin did not immediately respond to my request for comment.

Bezos has talked about that [blauer Himmel] should not land and bring a base to the moon . Near the South Pole of the Moon is a Shackleton Crater. Maybe that's part of a plan that will be announced next month?

So far, however, Blue Origin has only carried suborbital launches with its New Shepard vehicle. The moon seems to be quite far away at this point.

One thing Blue Origin could soon show us is the first New Shepard flight with a passenger on board. This would be a big coup for the company, which landed a rocket before SpaceX made it for the first time. Bezos would probably like to beat Musk again. (To be honest, it's much harder to land a larger orbital missile like a Falcon 9.)

Whatever the new adventure Blue Origin is embarking on, hopefully it will not end like the Endurance, the this fateful Antarctic journey was destroyed.
