He said he had gone to bed around 9 p.m. when he woke up with a flood of text messages and said that Aaryn was taken to the hospital to treat her injuries.
“The fact that she’s in the hospital and probably needs surgery … She just cries, she’s scared and I just hate it.”
After the radio broadcast, Smiley posted a number of warm photos of Aaryn online, revealing that his daughter was still in surgery when he asked for “prayers and support”.
A few hours later, he announced that his daughter had “gotten out of her operation” and was “doing great”.

“All parents who have to bury their children … just make sure you pray for them.
“We have to stop the violence. My daughter is not in gangs. It doesn’t bother anyone.
“If I feel the way I feel, imagine someone who has to go to the cemetery. Imagine how they feel. I’m so angry right now, I don’t know what to do. ‘
Smiley explained how he had tried to find direct flights to Houston, but was unable to do so due to the travel restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Instead, he planned to go to Dallas before catching a connecting flight.
“I want you to see what parents have to do when their children become victims of gun violence.”
