The employees of King Soopers overwhelmingly vote for the strike

DENVER – Members of the union, owned by Kroger's representatives of King Soopers / City Market, voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike on Friday night.

More than 92 percent voted for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 union.

The vote on Friday came after talks between the union

and the company to failure.

The current contract ended on January 12, and Local 7 and King Soopers were busy drawing up a new collective labor agreement since mid-December.

No cut-off date has been set, but the strike authorization allows the union leadership to demand a strike at any time, such as dismissal from the union.

In a statement to Denver7, a spokesman for King Soopers said, "Our stores are as usual." The company hopes Local 7 will return to the negotiating table.

2,000 workers, represented by UFCW Local 7, work at 109 King Soopers and City Market stores in Colorado.
