Netflix has posted a trailer for his upcoming science fiction series Another Life with Battlestar Galactica Katee Sackhoff. The 10-episode series premieres on July 25 and looks like a fun hybrid between the first contact film Arrival and the dark matter of the Syfy Channel .
The series follows Commander Niko Breckinridge (Sackhoff), who was chosen to lead a mission to a distant planet after an alien ship lands on Earth. All the tropics of a "reluctant leader embarking on a dangerous mission" are present: there are promises for relatives to come back, staring into space, and crew members thinking about their place in history. Meanwhile, her husband (played by Justin Chatwin) has to figure out where the artifact came from, and it looks like there are bigger consequences for humanity's fate. On the way, alien monsters, crewmembers who seem to be developing strange powers, and parties on the flight deck play a role in the story.
The series seems to have the feel of some of the big, silly science-fiction shows of the early 2000s, such as Andromeda Firefly Stargate SG-1
