DeVoe added another bus meta to his collection during the Tuesday episode of The Flash . But this time, death was heartbreakingly close to home.
Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) knew he could be the next victim, was ready to cross a line by knocking down DeVoe. But after an encouraging talk from Barry (Grant Gustin), Ralph decided to spare DeVoe as he stood alone against The Thinker – a move that cost Ralph his life when DeVoe took over his body.
"It's a big loss for Team Flash," says Danielle Panabaker EW. "Especially for Barry, he will carry a lot of blame, because he could not save Ralph, and that affects the entire team."
However, this death is different from the others who fell into the hands of DeVoe. "There's something about this death that affects Barry in ways that did not have previous losses," says Carlos Valdes. "He has invested an emotional investment in Ralph's growth, and the fact that Ralph has been able to become a hero makes it difficult for Barry to cope with this death." There is also an extra layer of sadness, only in Considering how far-sighted Ralph's fears were all along-he was afraid to accept that cloak, and just when he found the courage to counteract it, he was killed. "
Though tragic The loss of Ralph becomes Barry in a unique Way, because he does not really believe he has time to mourn. "Barry denies his role in Ralph's death," says Gustin. "He takes it pretty hard, but he suppresses it a bit and wants to move on because we're still dealing with DeVoe." Barry has some guilt he feels just because he feels he has not done everything what he could do, and he pushed Ralph too hard, it feels just like another person killed because of Barry. "So do not expect Barry to fight DeVoe again immediately, as the loss of the Teams will throw them back. "It's kind of in the way to negotiate with DeVoe for a couple of episodes just because Barry has a hard time coping with these two things at the same time," teases Gustin.
The Flash Airs Tuesdays at 20 pm ET on The CW.
