PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – The Philadelphia Department of Public Health issued a warning on Friday after it was confirmed that a person working in an Italian restaurant in Center City suffers from acute hepatitis A. October 28 and 15. November will receive a hepatitis A vaccine as soon as possible after a person working in the restaurant has become infected with the virus.

Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver. It can spread if a person who has the virus does not wash their hands thoroughly after using the bathroom and then cooks food. People infected with hepatitis A usually develop symptoms two to six weeks after contact with the virus.
According to officials, the symptoms range from mild cases of diarrhea and vomiting to more severe symptoms of jaundice. Other symptoms include fever, low energy, stomach pain and dark urine.
