According to the blog, the new smart thermostat will swap the plastic display of earlier versions for glass that enhances wireless capabilities and offers dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It also adds Spotify Connect and Alexa Calling, drop-in and messaging. The new SmartSensor appears to have improved occupancy detection, longer battery life, and extended coupling range.
These details are not clear as Ecobee did not announce the products, but we have contacted the company to confirm this. Ecobee has been working with Alexa for years, so the extra features seem like a natural evolution. And last summer, the company tested a Peak Relief pilot program that automatically curtailed heating and cooling when electricity prices were highest. Maybe the company is ready to add this feature to its new model. Last month Zatz Not Funny shared a picture of Ecobee's first home security camera. With this latest leak, it seems that Ecobee has at least a few new smart home products in the works.
