Save Mart spokeswoman Victoria Castro says Joseph DeAngelo worked at the distribution center in Roseville near Sacramento for 27 years before retiring last year.
Castro says none of his workplace actions have led the company to suspect him of being linked to the crimes.
DeAngelo, 72 years old, was arrested on Tuesday when he left his Sacramento area.
The authorities suspect that he is the man who terrorized people in the 1970s and 1980s with killings, rapes and burglaries.
So far, he has been charged with eight murders.

A man accused of committing serial killings and rape in California in the 1970s and 1980s has been charged with four more charges of murder.
Orange County Public Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday Joseph James DeAngelo, a 72-year-old former police officer, was indicted in 1980 for the murder of Keith and Patrice Harrington at Dana Point.
He is also being charged with rape and killing of 28-year-old Manuela Witthuhn in 1981 and 18 years – Janelle Cruz in 1986.
Police said they believe DeAngelo is the so-called Golden State killer suspected committed at least 12 murders, 45 rapes, and dozens of burglaries in California.
