Democrats are on their way to the convention headquarters. Keith Ellison's candidacy for a Attorney General

Prosecutor Patricia Torres Ray, a prominent voice in Latina affairs and a former lieutenant governor candidate, is in. So does Margaret Anderson Kelliher, spokeswoman for the Minnesota House from 2007-2011 and a former candidate for governor.

Others may still enter a permanent democratic seat in the Minneapolis area. State Representative Ilhan Omar, a Minneapolis Democrat and the country's first Somali-American state legislator, was also considered considering a run.

The registration deadline ends at 5 pm. Tuesday

U.S. Rep Keith Ellison is filing papers to run as the next Minister of Justice of Minnesota.

Ellison, the vice president of the Democratic National Committee, submitted the paperwork to run for the Minister of Justice on Tuesday, hours before a deadline.

Ellison will probably have to give up his post at the National Party. He accepts a confirmed candidate and some others.

His move comes a day after current Attorney General Lori Swanson announced that she would run for governor.

Longtime Democratic State Rep Debra Hilstrom Candidates for Attorney General

It is the last domino that falls after Attorney General Lori Swanson has decided not to seek a fourth term and a load Minute bid for the governor to make. Hilstrom had fought for the office earlier this year when Swanson considered a bid for the governor, but retired.

But that changed Monday. Swanson announced she would run for the governor and nominate a candidate.

Hilstrom, a nine-month lawmaker from the Brooklyn Center, filed for office on Tuesday. She will meet Democratic Party-backed candidate Matt Pelikan in an August presidential election that could grow.

Former Democratic Attorney General Mike Hatch also submitted his old job. But he said he would retire if Hilstrom or other candidates he supported would go into the race.

The filing deadline ends on Tuesday at 5 pm

Former Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch has applied to run for his old job. But he does not really want it.

Hatch filed for Attorney General on Tuesday, hours before the file inspection window closes. The Democrat served two terms as Attorney General before running for the governor in 2006. He lost this election to Tim Pawlenty.

It comes one day after Acting Attorney General Lori Swanson made a last-minute bid for the governor. Hatch made it clear that he would withdraw his candidacy if the right candidate for the office ran.

Several familiar names in Minnesota politics such as state representative Debra Hilstrom, former Republican Deputy Ryan Winkler and US Rep. Keith Ellison had previously shown interest in the work. Hatch specifically mentioned Winkler and Hlstrom, but did not mention Ellison as a good alternative.

The registration window for Minnesota's political offices is drawing to a close.

The deadline for submission of the report and federal offices was closed at 17 pm Tuesday. This will lead to the dissolution of rampant speculation about who will run for the polling stations up and down.

Much of this speculation revolves around the race to replace Attorney General Lori Swanson. Their withdrawal from this race for a last minute bid for Governor on Monday could trigger a game of chairs in the Democratic Party.

A handful of state legislators and even US Representative Keith Ellison had shown interest in the direction of Attorney General earlier this year. Swanson lost the party's approval to Attorney General this weekend.
