LOT ANGELES (November 19, 2019) – The 2021 Lexus LC 500 Cabriolet celebrated its global debut today at the Los Angeles International Auto Show 2019, offering the same dynamic and luxurious driving performance that makes the flagship LC 500 Coupe famous. The LC 500 Convertible extends the aspirational two-door LC family and offers an additional way to stimulate the senses ̵

1; with the top down. The exterior of the new LC convertible stylishly blends the unique roofline of the Coupé with the character of a convertible and achieves an exquisite profile with the roof open or closed.

Constructed from top to bottom

The LC 500 Convertible Reminiscent of the Coupé Even sharper handling with a low center of gravity, optimal weight distribution and a focus on performance-oriented handling thanks to impressive structural rigidity. Lexus engineers relied on computer aided engineering (CAE) analysis and real driving performance to determine the driving characteristics of the coupé. The extensive research and development work led to impressive results.

The engineers wanted a similar driving dynamics as the LC 500 Coupe at the same time improves the chassis stiffness by adding and laying different structural struts. The chassis of the LC Cabrio is specially adapted to the small weight changes between the two platforms, as a reduction in the unsprung weight of the front axle improves the overall stroke. In the rear, the engineers were able to further improve structural rigidity by reshaping and relocating the rear suspension tower. The weight in the rear of the vehicle has been reduced by using a lightweight die-cast aluminum suspension strut, while a performance muffler is used to improve ride comfort.

Front-engine and rear-wheel drive LC convertible drivers expect something similar. Powerful coupe performance thanks to the powerful powertrain combination of the 5.0-liter V8 engine combined with the seamless Direct Shift 10-speed automatic transmission. The V8 with naturally aspirated engine and direct injection achieves an output of 471 hp at 7,100 rpm and a torque of 398 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm.

Soft top, hard appearance

The soft top of the LC Convertible features an innovative folding mechanism that includes a cargo compartment cover when it is stored. The design allowed engineers to focus on highlighting the sleek lines of the Cabriolet without significantly affecting the trunk and interior, which can be matched by a heavier and bulkier hardtop. The curves of the coupe are highlighted by some important changes by the silhouette of the convertible. The rear trunk space
is accented with a raised design that slightly lifts the tread, while the surface of the spoiler is laterally widened to emphasize the car's low, wide posture. The middle brake light is now integrated in the tailgate, unlike the coupe, which rests on top of the rear window.

The four-ply convertible top shall maintain the flowing roof line of the coupé without the support frame being visible through the fabric. The roofing material itself has been carefully selected and manufactured to provide optimum tension, minimize wrinkling and improve soundproofing. The roof can be opened or closed at a speed of up to 50 km / h, while an animated display on the instrument panel indicates the progress of the top. One of the most impressive aspects is the time it takes: about 15 seconds to open and about 16 seconds to close *.

The top is available in two colors: black and beige. The exterior colors of the Cabriolet include Ultra White, Smoky Granite, Liquid Platinum, Atomic Silver, Obsidian, Caviar, Infrared **, Cadmium Orange, Flare Yellow ** and Nightfall Mica. Depending on the chosen exterior color, three interior colors are available: Black, Circuit Red and Toasted Caramel.

The LC 500 Convertible Inspiration Series will be shown at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. Limited to just 100 pieces, this special edition is available in textured blue with a white semi-aniline leather interior, a unique blue top, gray headlight trim, side air intake and tail light fittings. Chrome / black 21-inch wheels are standard. Further details will follow in a later announcement.

Top Down, year-round

With the new LC convertible, the soft top does not have to stay even when the weather cools down. In fact, the HVAC system is designed to automatically adjust the temperature, regardless of whether the top is raised or lowered. If it is a down-neck heater, it should help to keep the upper body warm. The Lexus Climate Concierge with upper body heating automatically manages the air conditioning, heated seats, neck heating and steering wheel heating to ensure that the cabin is at the ideal temperature, even when the weather is not out there. The HVAC system has also been optimized to allow warm or cold air to reach the back of the rider's hands as the rider grips the steering wheel.

The engineers also made sure that the driving experience for all passengers is optimal. The cab is designed to reduce wind noise due to the unique shape of the waistline and back bar to prevent the wind from entering. A transparent polycarbonate wind deflector prevents unwanted air from entering the cabin when driving in the city or on the highway. There is also a windshield available, which further reduces wind gusts at higher speeds. Active Noise Control (ANC) combines sound attenuation and absorption techniques to suppress unwanted hardship when entering the cabin.

While efforts are being made to keep certain sounds out, the powerful roar of the LC family's V8 naturally aspirated engine is a sound to enjoy. In order to hear the throaty voice of the engine while the top is lowered, the engine's intake pulses are naturally channeled through a diaphragm into a sound tube that carries the noise and not the air itself into the cab to stop the V8 from rumbling amplify (similar to the system) employed in the Lexus LFA). There is no electronic sound here! To further enhance the aggressive tone of engine exhaust and boost performance, a computer-controlled valve balances the fine line between exhaust backpressure and exhaust tuning and volume at higher engine speeds.

Impressive Technology Top of Mind

Similar to its Coupé brothers, the LC 500 Convertible will be equipped with an impressive 10.3-inch high-resolution multimedia display that provides instant simultaneous access to audio or climate controls and various systems, including voice-driven navigation, enable system.
