T The lottery winners could be denied prize money of £ 4 million on suspicion of having bought their winning scratch card with a stolen bank card £ 10 at Waitrose in Clapham, South London, on Easter Monday.
But when the jubilant couple, both convicted of multiple criminal charges and recently released from jail, had contacted Camelot to claim the grand prize, their story called alarm bells.
They admitted that none of them had a bank account, even though they bought the scratch card with a debit card.
When they were asked whose bank card was used, they called a mysterious friend named "John," but could not state this to indicate his last name, address, or phone number, and only to say that he had disappeared "to the north," is understood.
They say their claim is to be shelved while Camelot investigates.
