JOHNSTON COUNTY, NC – Greg Phillpotts said his runny nose had been bothering him for five years – last year's family's Thanksgiving holiday was ruined when liquid from a nostril suddenly poured into the food, WTVD reports.
"I was preparing to eat and stand in the kitchen and it simply added to the ingredients – it messed up all dinner," said the North Carolina Father. While undergoing surgery in September, he recently spoke to WTVD about his rare condition.
Phillpotts lived in New York until two years ago, when he retired to the south of Johnston County.
For years, Phillpotts blamed the nagging illness for allergies and told WCBS in September that doctors in North Carolina had diagnosed with pneumonia and bronchitis.
After years of stuffing tissue into his nose, on a February night he was determined to find out what he wanted to do with his body. Phillpotts said a cough lasted him a whole night, terrifying him enough to find another doctor.
This time he had the right diagnosis.
In September, Dr. Alfred Iloreta at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York The Phillpotts nose had actually leaked liquor.
"It's the leakage of fluid that surrounds the brain to cushion it primarily to protect it from shock or trauma or the like," Dr. Iloreta opposite WTVD.
Left untreated, leakage can lead to a dangerous infection, said Iloreta.
Minimally invasive cranial surgery was all it took to fix leakage ̵
After five years of torture, Phillpotts was overjoyed.
"You've ever been so overloaded that you can not breathe, and suddenly you can breathe again?" He asked. "You know what a relief that was?"
