Don’t feed the gremlin after midnight, don’t let it come into contact with water … and be careful when throwing it at “The Masked Singer”. In a first series, “The Masked Singer” did not expose a celebrity on Wednesday evening – the celebrity exposed itself.
Mickey Rourke was the second actor to leave “The Masked Singer” in season 4 after performing as a Gremlin. The furry, hot costume may have contributed to the early exit when Rourke decided to lift his mask after the performance. (Scroll down to watch the self-exposure.)
“Damn, it’s hot, I’m taking it off,” he said, much to the surprise of panelists and host Nick Cannon.
“We lost control, it̵
Rourke chose not to run any press regarding his exit, which left everyone involved baffled. When asked by Cannon on the show why he wanted to do ‘The Masked Singer’, Rourke said, “I was in the neighborhood. I like the show, I saw four episodes and they asked if I was interested, so from the start I saw all this shit. “
Rourke-as-the-Gremlin played Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” in “The Masked Singer”. Rourke dedicated the performance to his buddy Willy DeVille, a musician who died in 2009. “It meant a lot because this song was sung by one of my best friends of all time, Willy DeVille,” he said. “Willy died a long time ago and I missed him for a long time. I think Willy sent me this song the other day for some reason. “
Although they didn’t make their final guesses – Rourke took off his mask before they got to this point – panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg earlier guessed him correctly. Other names that were guessed were Jerry Lee Lewis (Robin Thicke) and Stone Cold Steve Austin (Ken Jeong).
“Greetings, I’m Gremlin,” said the character in his hint packet. “Despite my eventful history, I can actually be very charming. A true romantic. You may have heard that I can be a little combative. But I also have a fluffy side. I adore all animals, long spins on the beach and hit worthy opponents with foreign objects for maximum effect. I like to cook, too. Maybe you like what you see. I would love to have you for dinner. I mean over for dinner. But snuggle up first while I serenade you. “
New this season, the show’s panelists will also compete for a “Golden Ear” trophy based on their first impressions of each masked performer – and for the first week, Thicke and Scherzinger took the lead because they both chose Busta Rhymes . But in week two it wasn’t revealed whether anyone’s first impressions were correct (but it’s doubtful).
The Group B episode costumes also included Baby Alien, Crocodile, Whatchamacalit, Seahorse, and Serpent.
Here were the other participants and their accomplishments in week two:
Song: “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi
Strength: “Hard skin”
Weakness: “Quick to snap”
Voice over: “Welcome to the lover’s lagoon, where I’ll be singing and knocking you out soon. Becoming the crocodile was a natural choice because I am happiest in the water. And since I was a kid and raised in Hollywood, surrounded by heartache and instability, I’ve had to develop thick skin. But crocodiles get a bad rap for being cold blooded when I’m actually inside, a warm, sensitive creature that just wants to be loved back. And I can’t wait to share my hidden talent when I make one nasty big splash. “
Panel guesses: Jon Hamm, Nick Lachey, Donnie Wahlberg
Song: “Faith” by George Michael
Strength: “Interstellar Cuteness”
Weakness: “Cranky at lunchtime”
Voice over: “It is time for my rebirth. I’ve been stuck in second gear for a while. Back when I was the cream of the crop circle, I was in a theater every week. Even blasted on the Tony Awards stage, baby. But soon I became a second thought, lost in space. So I opened my baby eyes to other passions. Navigating a new route where my fate as a puppet master is in my hands. And I have to get the golden mask in my cot. “
Panel guesses: Ralph Macchio, David Schwimmer, Freddie Prinze Jr.
Song: “Only Girl (In the World)” by Rihanna
Strength: “To attract attention”
Weakness: “Dangerous undercurrents”
Voice over: “Howdy, partner, you don’t come from these areas, are you? You know, all my life I felt trapped by my insecurity and shyness, too scared to release the fire that burned inside. And you may call me melodramatic, but sometimes I felt lost in this world. As if I was always swimming upstream. But here I have the opportunity to stop playing the tug of war with myself and finally expose the intrepid diva from within. Under this camouflaged armor I use the power of the seahorse to show shiny new sides of myself. Leave behind all of my previous fears on this road to fame. “
Panel guesses: Halsey, Hailee Steinfeld, Bebe Rexha
Song: “I wish” from Skee-Lo
Strength: “Eyes on the price”
Voice over: “I am magical, mythical, jazzy, smart and full of pizazia. You see, people think I’m a shy guy. Mainly because I let others absorb my spotlight. As a bright hairball, I can shine on my own because this world is wide open. I can dance with the stars, surf candy bars, hum with the bees and swing from the keys. It’s time to turn the tables on the world. Because I don’t want to be hair today, gone tomorrow. “
Panel Guesses: Swizz Beatz, Dame Lillard, Tyler the Creator
Song: “I’ll Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers
Weakness: “High fives”
Voice over: “Sup, friends? It took a series of miraculous events to get here. Starting when I was young. Mischievous and sneaky, a problematic bargain. I slipped angrily toward a path of destruction. But my Pops saved me by sending me a one-way ticket away from the wrong crowd and on my way to success. I light a fire within myself to strive for new heights. I didn’t want to cause pain, I wanted to heal pain. And I hope to lift everyone’s spirits tonight. “
Panel Guesses: John Legend, Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr.
