ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Some things happened in January, it was snowing a lot, the St. Louis Blues began to gain and Gloria Akinsiku started working in the intensive care unit of St. Louis Children's Hospital.
"Every time I tell people my name, they sing the song," said Akinsiku.
Since 1982, Akinsiku said that Laura Branigan's "Gloria" had been part of her life. But only when she moved to St. Louis with her work as a traveling nurse, she got a new meaning.
A nurse in the ICU, Akinsiku has cared for many babies for more than 20 years. In January, she started to look after a little boy named Stanley. Stanley was prematurely born in December and spent the first five months of his life in the hospital.
But like our blues he is a fighter and next to his sister Gloria many fans cheer him on.
"He is a very sweet boy, we call him Stan the Man," she said, referring to a name reminiscent of another great St. Louis.
It is very likely that many other Stanleys and Glorias will be born in the coming months St. Louis.
