The Northern Lights will be visible on Labor Day weekend all the way to Wisconsin and Michigan

The Aurora borealis will be visible in parts of several northern states this weekend, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The light show forecast for Saturday and Sunday is the result of geomagnetic storm activity NOAA says. The Northern Lights are a common sight for Americans in Alaska, but on the weekend of Labor Day, the phenomena will invade parts of the adjacent US, including Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Vermont and Maine, according to an interactive map maintained by the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska Fairbanks wind collides with the Earth's atmosphere, says the Geophysical Institute

.

The lights are visible around the magentic poles of our planet. Most often, the aurora is seen as radiant green. It can also range from blue to pink.

The best time to see the Aurora is a few hours before or after midnight, with a clear, dark sky creating the best conditions.

A similar phenomenon occurred in March, when a geo tower viewed the Northern Lights in southern Canada and the northern US.
