'The OA' canceled after two seasons at Netflix – Variety

"The OA" will not be back for the third time at Netflix, Variety has learned.

The thriller played Brit Marling as a blind woman who disappeared seven years ago and suddenly returned with her sight restored. Now called The OA or Original Angel, she then recruits a small team to rescue other people who have disappeared by opening a portal into another dimension.

Marling has created the series together with Zal Batmanglij. Both produced together with Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg of Plan B Entertainment and Michael Sugar of Anonymous Content.

"We are incredibly proud of the 16 fascinating chapters of & # 39; The OA & # 39; and are grateful to Brit and Zal who have shared their bold vision and realized it through their incredible art, "said Cindy Holland, Netflix's original content vice president. "We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions."

Netflix does not usually leak viewer data, but the streamer has stated several times in the past that they have viewer data compared to the cost of deciding whether to extend a show or not.

In addition to Marling, Emory Cohen, Patrick Gibson, Jason Isaacs, Ian Alexander, Phyllis Smith, Brendan Meyer, Brandon Perea and Will Brill were featured in the series. Sharon Van Etten, Scott Wilson, Alice War and Paz Vega.

Season 1

of "The OA" debuted in December 2016, while Season 2 debuted nearly three years later in March this year. The series received mostly positive reviews from critics, with the two seasons with eight episodes showed an average of 84 percent critical approval rate for rotten tomatoes.
