The oldest person in the world, a Japanese woman, dies at the age of 117



TOKYO – The world's oldest person, a 117-year-old Japanese woman, has died

Chiyo Miyako died Sunday. Her death was confirmed on Friday by the prefecture of Kanagawa, her home state south of Tokyo.

Miyako, born May 2, 1901, became the oldest person in the world in April after Nabi Tajima died from Kikai Island in southern Japan at the age of 117

Miyako's family called her "the goddess" and recalled referring to her as a talkative person who was patient and kind to others, according to Guinness World Records, who had confirmed her title. Miyako enjoyed calligraphy that she had practiced until recently, and ate sushi and eel, Guinness said.

Guinness said that the successor to her world record still needs to be confirmed.
