July was certainly a busy month for Pokemon Go. Armored Mewtwo recently made their Raid Battles debut and a special One Piece Crossover event will begin on July 22nd. Prior to this, however, Niantic is hosting another community day. This month's event takes place today, July 21, giving players around the world the opportunity to capture some rare Pokémon and use additional bonuses in the game.
Most Pokémon Go Community Days usually run for only three hours, but the specifics of each event – such as the time of the start and the particular Pokemon – usually vary from month to month. To help prepare you for this month's event, here are the key details of the Pokemon Go Community Day in July, from the start times to the special events that Pokemon can learn this month.
What is Julys special Pokémon?
Niantic identifies a special Pokémon before each community day, which appears much more common than normal during the event. This month, the featured Pokemon will be Mudkip the water type starter of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. During the Community Days in July, Mudkip will appear more often than usual in nature, which is a good opportunity to stock up on Mudkip Candy. In addition, you have your first chance to encounter a Shiny Mudkip during the event.
What Is July's Community Day Move?
Each featured Pokémon can also learn a special, exclusive move during their community day. However, to obtain this move, you must bring the Pokémon to its final form by the end of the event. That goes for this month. Every Mudkip you develop after Swampert learns the mighty water attack Hydro Cannon even if you originally conquered it before the start of the Community Day. However, the Pokémon only learns the move if you can develop it up to one hour after the end of the Community Day in July, so you only have a relatively short time to get it.
When will the community day begin in July?
In the first year of its existence, each community day took place at a specific time, which varied depending on the region in which you lived. As of March of this year, however, Niantic changed the community day Plan so that the event runs from 3pm to 6pm local time, no matter where you live. To make the event a little more enjoyable in the busy summer months, Niantic has slightly postponed July's event times to 4-7pm local time when the weather is a bit cooler. According to Niantic, the schedule will return to normal after the end of the summer.
What other bonuses are there?
In addition to the increased Pokemon Spawns, Niantic offers a few more bonuses each community day as an added incentive to participate in the event. This month you triple the normal amount of XP for conquering Pokemon during the Community Day. In addition, all Lure modules you use last for three hours and not the usual 30 minutes.
