Cops look for a couple The Times Square proposal went "terribly wrong" when the Butterfinger groom fumbled his engagement ring and spent eight feet on a grate.
The desperate couple called for help just before midnight on Friday, but the cops were unable to fetch the ring, and the nameless couple, who are believed to be tourists, gave up and left.
The NYPD ambulance service tried again on Saturday morning in the sunlight and restored the ring.
"WE HAVE YOUR RING," announced the NYPD's Midtown North District on Twitter Saturday Night
. "Help us find the couple whose [sic] marriage proposal has gone horribly wrong after her engagement ring in #TimesSquare fell down the drain.
The cops have released surveillance video of the couple squatting on the sidewalk, desperately peeking into the grille in front of Times Square.
The woman is blond, the man is brown-haired, bearded and wearing a gray cap
