The record-breaking spacecraft takes an intense close-up of the sun (PHOTO) – RT World News

NASA has flown a probe closer to the sun than ever before to another spacecraft that captured an incredible image just 16.9 million kilometers from the surface of our star.

The Parker solar probe flew extremely close to the sun, broke the previous record of 26.55 million kilometers (42.72 million kilometers) and sped through space at 213,000 miles per hour – the fastest man-made spaceship ever Created by a human being

Now, NASA has unveiled the groundbreaking image that Parker had taken on November 8 during a raging flyby. It shows a bright coronal streamer (essentially solar material inside the solar atmosphere) that emanates from the left side of the image.

The space agency says that the bright object in the center of the image is Mercury, while the dark spots are a result of the background correction.

It was time For a spaceship closer to the sun. The last record for the closest approach and speed kept the German-American space probe Helios 2 from April 1976.

Parker is said to repeatedly break his own records during his seven-year mission, making 24 passes through the sun. The final approach in 2024 will be only 3.83 million kilometers from the sun's surface.

The Parker Solar Probe fights brutal heat and radiation during its mission to approach the sun as close as never before. It will provide important close-up observations of the star and answer questions about its inner behavior that has puzzled scientists for decades.

" We do not know what to expect near the Sun until we have received the data, and we will probably see some new phenomena ", said Nour Raouafi, Project Scientist at the Parker Solar Probe Project at the Physical Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University.

"Parker is an exploration mission – the potential for new discoveries is enormous . "
