An employee at a North Mississippi restaurant may have exposed guests to a contagious form of hepatitis, health officials said. An employee of the Mexican barbeque Los Encinos on Calhoun's 132nd Main Street recently was diagnosed with hepatitis A and had been diagnosed by visitors to the restaurant from July 5 to 23, officials from the Mississippi Department of Health said. "The risk of transmission is likely to be low, but anyone who has eaten at the restaurant during this period should do so. Consider taking a hepatitis A vaccine from your healthcare provider, your local pharmacy, or a county health department if you have not yet been vaccinated "Said state MSDH epidemiologist Dr. med. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that can spread during transmission of the virus enters the mouth when someone touches an object, a food or a drink that is contaminated by the feces of an infected person.
