LAKE PIRU (CBSLA) – The search for 33-year-old “Glee” actress Naya Rivera continued early Thursday morning after she disappeared on a lake on Wednesday afternoon with her 4-year-old son in Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials now called the search a restoration measure.
“That hasn’t changed anything, and the efforts we are making to find them,” said Sheriff’s deputy Chris Dyer on Thursday. “It changes the title in a way. We assume that an accident happened and we assume that she drowned in the lake. “
Diving teams from several local law enforcement agencies helped. The lake was closed.
According to the sheriff’s office, Rivera rented a pontoon boat for herself and her young son at around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday to sail to Lake Piru, which is located approximately 50 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.
About three hours later, another boater found her child sleeping alone in the boat. The boater notified officials who immediately used helicopters, drones, and diving teams to search for Rivera.
The child is said to have been unharmed and told investigators that he and his mother were swimming, but his mother had never got back on the boat.
It was not immediately clear how the child got back on the boat.
“There are many challenges in a reservoir of this size, sometimes with visibility,” said Sheriff’s Captain Eric Buschow on Wednesday. “I have no details yet about the depth of the area in which the boat was found or the conditions they encounter out there.”
Rivera had been to the lake in the past and was familiar with the area, the sheriff’s office said.
The vehicle in which Rivera and her son drove to Piru Lake was removed from the scene even though the boat remained in the water.
In the meantime, the authorities were working to reunite the child with family members.
On Tuesday, Rivera shared a photo of her and her son with the headline “Just the two of us” on Twitter.
