22-year-old Dylan John Bennett was arrested by Mexican police in Quintana Roo state, according to Quintana Roo's attorney's office.
He was found on the street after a citizen had reported him for aggressive behavior, and the local police agreed with the description of the US agents. Bennett was on Friday after his parents Barry and Carol Bennett, both 63, were shot dead on Wednesday at their Long Prairie home. The authorities responded to the house after receiving an emergency call from a friend who said Barry Bennett had not returned their phone calls and texts.
Investigators learned that Bennett had purchased a plane ticket from Ohio to Cancun earlier this week. They began to track his mobile phone, credit card, and ATM in Cancun, alerting the Mexican authorities of his whereabouts, according to a statement by Todd County Sheriff's Office.
Bennett approached the sheriff's office shortly before his arrest to announce that he knew they were looking for him and that he intended to call in, according to the statement. He was arrested before the Minnesota authorities were able to contact the Mexican police.
The FBI will transport Bennett to Minnesota, where he will face two second-degree murder without any intent.
