Florida's equipment truck was overhauled for the 2019 season. The new truck prominently displays the national championship trophies that Gators won in 1996, 2006 and 2008. A Georgia fan tweeted pictures of the truck and commented that the trophies were not up to par. You can probably imagine where that leads to.
The tweeters behind the official Twitter account for the employees of the Gators equipment did not have it.
"Trophy style has changed from the 90s to the early 2000s The last trophy you won nearly four decades ago. Completely different. #AndNowYouKnow " tweeted the account as an answer .
The fact that UGA last won a national championship in 1980 was a focal point for rival trash-talks with Bulldogs fans. It appeared that Florida coach Dan Mullen was trolling the Bulldogs when the Gators announced 39,476 for their participation in the spring game. Before the game, Mullen told reporters that the number of visitors announced in the spring would likely refer to a UF rival:
"Yeah, if you're going on 41,140 or so, I do not know. You're doing something like that. Have fun. I do not want to betray all my tricks, you ask further, I have tricks for the spring game up my sleeve. If I tell them all now, nobody will be thrilled to find out later. You really need to look for them to see if you see little things.
The 39,476 number (taken as a reference to 39 years and 476 games played since winning the national championship in 1980, intensified the back-and-forth between rival fans, and it's sure to be an eventful world's largest outdoor cocktail party, which takes place on November 2nd in Jacksonville.
