The year is 2019. The Amazon is burning (the one with the trees), Disney owns Spider-Man and World of Warcraft reappears. Not exactly. When Vanille WoW was published, Martha Stewart was convicted of a crime that Facebook had just published, and you could not save yourself from people using Lil Jon's notorious "YEAHHH!" In Usher's # 1 hit "Yeah!" 19659003] World of Warcraft Classic may restore Azeroth to its original state, but game development practices have come a long way since 2004. The world has changed unfathomably in the last fifteen years, and during WoW Classic strives to mimic the conditions of its original release. The games industry is not what it was then.
The people who come to WoW Classic are not the same people who vanilla WoW . Now we have foresight. Now we have more than a decade of accumulated knowledge and documented practice on private servers. What is known can not be unlearned. About Discord Communities, Online Forums, and WoW databases can be accessed in seconds. Vanilla-era players and citizens of private servers did not have the luxury of an online library. They commissioned to build it.
World of Warcraft allowed players to build their own worlds. Parties form to withstand difficult content, guilds join together in large-scale activities, open rivalries arise between you and members of your opposing faction – these aspects have largely made vanilla WoW so tempting. It is difficult to advertise honestly, as each server has its own attitude to things. Each "world" of Warcraft had its own law, its own guilds that governed progress, its own share of disreputable ninja looters, so as not to invite groups, and their own economy through the auction house. In vanilla WoW accessibility was achieved through the community of each server. These communities have already formed in WoW Classic for each server, and behind their identities is already a sense of narrative.
Faerlina was called a "streamer server" while Herod became a crowded destination for those who want to escape the effects of streamers could influence their experience. Classic has already begun to establish its own identity, separate from any private or original WoW server. The Worlds I've Experienced in Vanille WoW can not be replicated in Classic but brand new ones are on the horizon and full of unknowns. Does Blizzard make the same design decisions with six content phases planned for WoW Classic ? The answer seems to be in the hands of the community.

Blizzard has a rare opportunity to use retrospective as a tool for future blueprints. Focusing on expanding their community, Blizzard sacrificed much of what made vanilla WoW tempting. These adjustments were very real changes in quality of life, but the disadvantages emerged over time. The automation of party identification has promoted WoW in no meaningful way. Instead, it has helped Blizzard reach the inevitable expectation of being more comfortable with the community. A recent post in the official WoW Classic forums describes why an add-on adding a party finder to the Vanilla client is "incompatible with our social design for Classic " and me not smiling could be harder to read.
We all helped each other in vanilla WoW because we discovered Azeroth together. With time and the advent of other amenities, there were fewer unpleasant scenarios in which the player had to engage in social interactions. The solo game was twisted to improve the quality of life, making the players more accessible, but the social core of the game was sacrificed for it to work. Once you knew what to do, you did not have to interact with someone to make you the winner.
It was a pain no other class had to contend with, but played a role in defining the hunter. It was one of many inconveniences, but every class had it. Each arrow fired meant * something *, regardless of whether it was a time or currency resource. Rogues needed thistles, sorcerers bred soul splinters – everything was inherently unbalanced and nothing guaranteed the killing. That made it interesting. Much of what we now view as impractical was then viewed as building the world, and that created the community that filled the vanilla worlds of Warcraft . It may seem like the same game from 15 years ago, but I assume that my experience in the game is very different this time around.
Now that we know what we're doing in 2019, I'm less concerned with optimization. Although there is a healthy contingent of players who have the idea of performing 3-day speed runs at level 60 and clearing the entire endgame content within the first week after starting Classic that is not the only way to play. Optimal builds are appreciated and welcome on every raid, but you do not have to be optimal to "win the game". WoW always gave players the freedom to choose what content was important to them, and Classic seems to be wearing this torch.
I will be this November 30. Every day I am more and more grateful to my time here. Change is inevitable and the older I get, the clearer I see it. Why am I so interested in publishing an old MMO that takes so much time? I'm not in a hurry to finish. I know where WoW goes. We all know where WoW goes. But instead of looking at it as a deterrent, it loosens the regency for me.
The biggest reason why WoW Classic interests me is not that I want to relive my past in the . Warcraft Universe and Top Damage Meter, it can be seen how the worlds of and their inhabitants evolve in the context of 2019.
